The Nutcracker – Dec. 18 to 24 at various times: Light the fire in a child’s heart and spark your own childlike wonder with this beloved trip into a land where toy soldiers fight rat armies, snowflakes come dancing to life and the sugarplum fairy presides over it all with the wave of a wand. The enduring magic of George Balanchine’s classic through Oregon Ballet Theatre will create cherished memories. FestiBus — Dec. 20, 7 p.m.: Done your best Christmas get-up and hitch a ride on the FestiBus Tour and enjoy viewing holiday lights on Peacock Lane and at Portland International Raceway with 11 others. End the night after stops at three favorite bars and the mandatory white elephant gift exchange. The $35 tour is for those 21 and over and leaves from Grand Ave. in Portland. Golden Girls Live — Dec. 20, 21, 27 and 28, 7:30 p.m.: “Thank you for being a friend.” View two holiday episodes of the hit TV show performed by an all-male cast in Golden Girls: Live! At the Funhouse Lounge on SE 11th Ave. Join Rose, Blanche, Dorothy and Sophia for the funniest and coolest holiday celebration this side of Miami. Tickets are $15 in advance and $18 at the door. Natalie Cole Christmas – Dec. 21, 7:30 p.m.: Join the Oregon Symphony this holiday season when nine time Grammy winner Natalie Cole returns to Portland to perform hit tunes and holiday numbers at Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall. Natalie recently received three Latin Grammy nominations for her new album, which features her distinctive take on classics from her father’s catalog, plus several other selections from the Latin American Songbook. It’s A Wonderful Life – Dec. 19, 20, 21 and 22: Stumptown Stages’ original musical based on the classic film is becoming a Portland holiday tradition. This tale, of an angel who shows a compassionate, but despairingly frustrated businessman what life would have been like if he never existed, is sure to warm the heart and bring holiday joy. 13th Annual Holiday Concert Series with Aaron Meyer — Dec. 20 and 21, 7:30 p.m. and Sat. at 2 p.m.: Enjoy holiday music from the Northwest’s own “concert rock violinist” at the First Congressional Church on SW Park Ave. Aaron Meyer will perform with his six-piece concert rock orchestra featuring renowned guitarist and producer Tim Ellis.
