It’s July – one of our favorite months to live in beautiful West Linn. With so many activities in full swing, this city knows how to celebrate in style. And this year marks the city’s 100th year so there’s even more to celebrate with the centennial.
Here are some inexpensive ideas to keep you busy this July in West Linn:
- Attend the Old Time Fair: The city’s signature festival, the 57th annual West Linn Old Time fair will take place July 19, 20 and 21 at West Linn’s Willamette Park. Kicking off – as usual – with skydivers the name of the newly crowned fair queen, the celebrations continue with amusement park rides, a waterski show, great music, custom car show, plenty of food vendors and more. And don’t miss the parade down Willamette Falls Drive in the city’s historic Willamette district.
- Fourth of July: The annual Fourth of July celebration will take place at Willamette Park from 6 to 10 p.m. July 4. Enjoy a fireworks display alongside community members who served in the military. Enjoy tunes from the band Return Flight and the 142nd Oregon National Guard as they salute West Linn.
- Watch a movie in the park: Free films are shown on an oversized blow up screen in West Linn parks on Fridays for six weeks each summer. Movies begin at dusk and concessions are available for purchase. Picnics are welcome and blankets and low sand chairs are recommended for seating. Citizens are still voting on what films to show this year so visit the city’s website to plan your outdoor viewing parties closer to the date.
- Dance in the street: The annual West Linn Street Dance will take place July 13 from 4:45 to 11 p.m. at the corner of Willamette Falls Drive and 13th. Mingle with neighbors and boogie down to the tunes of John English (a.k.a. “The Voice”) with his tribute to “ol blue eyes” Frank Sinatra.
- Learn about e-Books: Whew! After all that dancing and outdoor fun, perhaps it’s time to learn a bit indoors at the West Linn Public Library. Enjoy a free training on July 10 and 24 to get hands-on help with your e-reader. The schedule: 1 p.m. tablets and smartphones; 2 p.m. non-table kindles; 3 p.m. all other non-tablet e-readers. Learn how to use the Library2Go system and how to find, check out and download e-Books, how to return e-Books and how to transfer books to your device.
And if you lived at Rosemont Pointe off Rosemont Road, you wouldn’t be far from all the action. And you’d be able to enjoy the community pool. Leslee Lahey (503-969-0125) with Renaissance Homes would love to show you around the neighborhood so you can stay involved in the busy community. Happy July from Renaissance Homes.
