This low-key, southeast Portland neighborhood gets part of its name from the old Mt. Scott trolley line. The northern border, SE Foster Road, used to be a prominent trading route. Many people who arrived here in the early 20th century were German immigrants. The Mt. Scott Community Center and Indoor Pool features a roller skating rink and a preschool program, plus an 11-acre park. Dining and shopping opportunities are located at the edges of the neighborhood, on SE 82nd Avenue and SE Foster Rd. One of Portland’s best Mexican grocery stores, Portland Mercado, is just a few blocks from Mt. Scott Park. This family-friendly community has worked hard to beautify the area. The neighborhood association works with Friends of Trees, and the neighborhood created the Arleta Triangle, which transformed the public right of way into a gathering space for the community.
