Neighborhood Profile

Neighborhood Overview

Located in northern Southeast Portland, Mt. Tabor is named after a volcanic cinder cone, where a 193-acre park of the same name sits. In the mid 19th century, many settlers lived in Mt. Tabor and grew fruit. The beautiful Mt. Tabor Park, acquired in 1909, features hiking trails, volleyball courts, an off-leash dog area, great city and mountain views, and many other features. Cheryl Strayed, author of Wild, lives in this neighborhood. An award-winning restaurant lies close to the park, and endless dining and shopping can be found along SE Belmont Street, SE Division Street, and SE Hawthorne Boulevard.
