Small Town Charm, Big City Attractions

Sometimes, history repeats itself, and this time– it’s for the better.

Think back: What was your most coveted childhood memory? Was it riding your banana-seat bike to the store to buy chocolate milk? Or, was it going to the movie theater every Saturday, funded by money you made from delivering newspapers?  Could it have been baking in the kitchen with your grandma, trying not to lick the whole bowl of cookie batter from the mixer? It’s easy to bring these memories back into the present, per an address within Renaissance’s Roger’s Farm community near downtown Milwaukie.  Downtown Milwaukie is just a short drive or bike ride east of this community, and boasts one of the most charming downtown areas in the area. Main Street is the hub of yesteryear’s thrills, with a new modern twist.  Seeing a movie, for instance, is a whole new experience at the Wunderland Milwaukie Cinemas. Not only can you see your favorite new releases on a high definition screen, there’s also games, and lots of ‘em: ski ball, arcades, and old-fashioned plush crane machines, to name a few.   Prices for movie tickets also have an old-timey vibe at $3.00 per ticket. Add just a dollar for 3D. If one of your favorite childhood recollections included creating masterpieces in the kitchen, you’re in luck. Baking your favorite foods just got easier, as Bob’s Red Mill is just a short drive east of Roger’s Farm. Bob’s Red Mill boasts an entire factory store that’s stocked with baking and cooking ingredients, all made locally at the Bob’s Red Mill factory. Bob’s represents unsurpassed product quality, and uses only superior grains and sugars. If you loved riding your bike as a kid (and still do!) you’ll be happy to hear Milwaukie’s riverfront promenade opens May 1. The revamped, eight-mile stretch of land sandwiched between the Willamette River and McLaughlin Boulevard will feature multi-use concrete paths overlooking the river, event space and picnic areas. It’s not far from all the action in downtown and will surely reflect the city’s vibrancy.
